DANIEL SIPPEL was trained in media design at the TV-school Berlin and also on-the-job from 1996 until 1999, followed by extensive work on film and video sets on movies, commercials, short films and documentaries as an electrician and later as 2nd and
1st Assistant Camera.
While caring already for SD-productions as DIT (Digital Image Technician) the introduction of HD (High Definition, resp.: HDcam) made him shift to work as HD-DIT and Consultant. Meanwhile with experience in HD/24p gear since 2000. He worked primarily on features as a HD-DIT/vision control for HD-camera shoots consulting the DP and the camera technically and creatively during preparation and shooting.
In addition to several documentaries where he served as a DIT and Assistant Camera like “Mana-beyond belief“ (dir. by Peter Friedman and Roger Manley), his recent features as Supervisor include "Nimm dir dein Leben" aka "take your life" (cinematography by Juergen Juerges, 2004), and "Hitlerkantate" (cinematography by Thomas Mauch, 2004), "V for Vendetta", Pre-Production of HD-footage (Writer/Prod. Wachowski Bros.; Cinematography by Alwin Küchler/A.Biddle, 2005) and "Nothing but Ghosts" (Cinematography by Eeva Fleig, Boxfilm 2006).
Further Directors of Photography he worked with: Eric Guichard, Florian Ballhaus, Jacques Besse, Anthony Dod Mantle, Nic Morris, Alex Lamarque, Josh Josimovic and Alexander Surkala.
Other documentary works include "1936 Olympics" (HBO/Clear Channel, 2003), "Die Durchmacher" (dir.: Leander Haussmann, 2001), short-films and commercials including "Schlorkbabies", "Deutsche Bank", “Kaufhof”, "Sony Center Screen Berlin" and artists´performance like "Vanessa Beecroft in Berlin".
Meanwhile he is also successful as a young digital cinematographer on projects such as music-videos, short-films and commercials like "Skinny & Dagstar" (2001), “Wireless“ (German Telecom, IFA 2003 trade fair presentation), “Ruhrkohle AG“ (2004), "Breakdream" (Maxfield, 2005) and "Stadium" ( www.lynnemarsh.net)
In addition Daniel gave hands-on trainings for Directors, Focus Puller, DP´s like for the bvk (german camera guild), HFF Potsdam (lectureship 2007) and dffb (german film and tv academy berlin). For the time being he is not fully available as a freelancer, as he is Head of Digital Cinematography and Camera-Consultant at Cinegate Germany Ltd..
Daniel Sippel was born on May 1st, 1976 in Marburg/Lahn, Germany, and is now living
in Berlin and plays the trumpet for Tina and their two daughters Jonna Ida and Rosa Lou.
He speaks English fluently and has professional experiences abroad including France, BeNeLux, Austria, Switzerland, UK, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Benin, India, Japan, New Zealand, U.S.A., Myanmar, Malaysia, Mongolia, Slovakia, Iceland, Jamaica and South Africa.
